SERVICES Parker Counseling and Consulting is a private counseling practice. We offer professional counseling, consultation and intervention. We provide confidential services for individual adults, adolescents, family and couples counseling regarding mental health issues.
CONFIDENTIALITY The client’s privacy will be maintained. All spoken, written, and recorded data concerning each session are considered confidential and will not be divulged to any person, group, or authority without the client’s written consent, unless disclosure is compelled by exceptional circumstances. Exceptional circumstances include, for example, an imposed referral or sanction requiring a report to an official, a court ordered disclosure in a legal proceeding or in response to a subpoena, information revealed to group members in group therapy sessions in which participation is voluntarily, when the information disclosed relates to possible abuse, neglect or exploitation of a minor or defenseless person, or when communication relates to a threatened crime or the reasonably likely possibility that the client plans to cause harm to him/herself or others.
ETHICAL PRACTICE Parker Counseling and Consulting adheres to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice approved by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling and the American Counseling Association. These ethics and standards are intended to protect the welfare of the clients and community.
We will make every reasonable effort to professionally facilitate the resolution of the client’s problems and issues and address the client’s needs and concerns. Ultimately, the client must decide to implement or utilize what was gained from the counseling process. Our work can only be effective with the client’s commitment and continuity.
Counseling can be a beneficial experience. Even so, some risks exist, including remembering unpleasant events, arousal of strong emotions and feelings, and an impact on relationships with significant others. Benefits may include an improved ability to relate with others, a clearer understanding of self, increased productivity, and an ability to deal with everyday stress. Taking personal responsibility for working with these issues may lead to personal growth.
The client has the right to ask questions about our recommendations and procedures. The client also has the right to refuse to follow these recommendations. We have the right and ethical responsibility to terminate counseling and offer a referral to another counselor if the client chooses not to follow recommendations.
INTAKE AND REFERRALS At the initial appointment, the counselor and client will discuss the presenting concern or current issues for which the appointment was made. The counselor will discuss with the client the manner in which Parker Counseling and Consulting will best be able to provide the kind of help needed and specify the limitations and parameters of that service. When Parker Counseling and Consulting is unable to provide the type of service needed or requested, an appropriate referral will be made.
SCHEDULING AND PAYMENT Meetings with a counselor or clinician are made by appointment only. Clients are expected to honor their appointment obligations and are expected to arrive on time. If a client is unable to keep an appointment, he/she is expected to notify the Parker Counseling and Consulting office in a timely manner to cancel or reschedule. 24 hours advance notification is recommended.
Clients will be charged for missed appointments. Payment for missed sessions will be charged at half the regular rate. If you have missed a scheduled appointment and you do not call to reschedule this appointment within 30 days, your clinician will accept this as your termination of treatment.
RESOLUTION The counseling relationship may be discontinued and sessions may be ended at the discretion of the client, unless the sessions are the result of an imposed referral or sanction. Parker Counseling and Consulting may, at any time, due to specified conditions, circumstances or actions, determine that a client is not able to benefit from the services provided and may discontinue service to that client.
